Review: A Time To Rise

Age Range:13+

Genre: Christian, Dystopian.

Favorite Quote(s): “Me. I can’t be shaken because I’m God’s. I like the idea of Him shaking the world to see what’s left standing, and all that remains is shalom.”

“Maybe that’s what God means every time He tells us to rise up. To rise above the small things, the small struggles that chip away our identity and leave us lost.”

“God. His voice. HIs presence in my mind reminds me why I’m here. I’m alive and fully HIs. I’m fully Yours. My agenda doesn’t matter. I focus on obeying. Arising.“

Series: Third book in the Out Of Time trilogy.

Stars: Five out of Five stars.

There may be slight spoilers for books one, A Time to Die, and two, A Time to Speak, you have been warned!

This series is one of my favorites. Each book had such a powerful punch of emotion behind it, and this series holds a very dear spot in my heart; as does the author.

This book sparked hope in you that isn’t unrealistic. Nadine Brandes wrote such a powerful message.

These characters feel like a part of my family. My fictional family, that is ;) I re-read the first two book in preparation for A Time to Rise (I totally recommend reading them one after the other.) and I was able to see how Parvin grew as a character. In the first book she wasn’t sure what she needed to do. She knew she didn’t want to waste her last year of life. She wanted there to be Shalom. In the second book, speak was her motto for her day to day life and she grew to be a leader. And then in the conclusion she rose above everything and made a difference in the life of people everywhere. I think every single teenager should read this series so Parvin can be an inspiration to them!

Solomon, of course, is a favorite. A LOVE the relationship between Parvin and him. He’s a strong godly man and someone I would look for in a husband. I do have to say… I feel like he was almost too perfect. cringes saying anything bad about him.

I’m so glad that Parvin had her parents throughout the whole series. I loved the family aspect and how important they were to her. They really helped encourage her and build her up, exactly what a family should do.

I can’t end this review without talking about the God parts in this book. Parvin’s faith was amazing to watch grow and thrive.

I could go on and on about how much I love this series and the characters and how you should all read it and how awesome the author is.. But I won’t :)

I will be re-reading this series over and over again! I am sad to say goodbye to a marvelous series… but I’m excited to see what else Nadine Brandes has planned!

I just came from another friend’s blog who absolutely GUSHED over this. I’m glad the series got better for you, I know the first one didn’t rate so high. I’m really going to have to watch for this one!
